South Carolina

From alligators and bears to deer, fowl, and small game, South Carolina offers a wide range of wildlife to satisfy all kinds of hunters. Just as the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is dedicated to maintaining the state's beautiful hunting lands, they also set rules and regulations in place to help keep hunters safe.

South Carolina has four separate game zones. These help to regulate the harvest and bag limits each hunting season. Each zone has its own season dates with some overlapping dates. In addition to these hunting seasons, South Carolina also has specific deer hunting seasons for private lands and public hunting seasons for bear, turkey, and small game.

To keep hunting season as safe and enjoyable as possible, South Carolina has placed a few measures in place. Each hunter, resident or nonresident, must possess the appropriate licenses and permits for hunting. After completing the necessary hunter education in-person or online, hunters may obtain their license. Licenses, tags, and harvest applications are available for bear, fur, deer, and more. And, special permits are available for disabilities.
