Ohio

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources understands the excitement of the annual hunting and trapping seasons. While there are plenty of wild game options to choose from, some of the main types of animals hunted in Ohio include deer, doves, fox, feral pigs, and more. With carefully established rules and regulations, they help to protect local wildlife populations without compromising the joy of the hunt. To regulate these populations, those who hunt wild game including deer and turkey must report their harvest to the Ohio Game Check.

To hunt legally and safely, all resident and non-resident Ohio hunters are required complete a state-approved hunter education course and possess a valid hunting license. For hunters aged 15 years and younger or apprentice hunters, they must be accompanied by a licensed adult.

A variety of hunting licenses are available for youth, adults, and seniors. Hunters can also find a wide range of permits for hunting on a shooting range or depending on the type of game hunted. Ohio residents may purchase multi-year and lifetime hunting licenses. Residents and non-residents may also purchase apprentice hunting licenses.

For Ohio residents born before December 31, 1937, handicapped or disabled veterans, and former prisoners of war are eligible to apply for free licenses through a licensed agent. Exemptions for licensure include Ohio resident and nonresident landowners who hunt on their own land and active members of the United States Armed Forces who are on leave or furlough.
