North Carolina

North Carolina is a well-loved location for hunting, fishing, trapping, and boating. Since 1947, the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission has helped maintain safe and beautiful hunting lands. This way, hunters nationwide can enjoy this pastime throughout the state. For those interested in joining in the North Carolina hunting season, ensure that you are prepared for the hunt.

North Carolina offers three big game seasons and limits for black bears, white-tail deer, and wild turkeys. More seasons are available for small game species ranging from armadillo and feral swine to nutria, rabbit, and squirrel. Hunters can also enjoy specific seasons for waterfowl and webless migratory game birds.

To take part in hunting or fishing seasons, all participants must first receive their licenses. These are available for hunting, fishing, a combination of hunting and fishing, trapping, and lifetime licenses. Special licenses may also be obtained for seniors, disabled veterans, and fully disabled hunters.

Hunters must first complete the state’s education requirements to be eligible for licensure. This may consist of an approved hunter education course or a Hunting Heritage Apprentice Permit. Hunter education courses and trapper education courses are available online or in person for your convenience.
