Montana

Montana is home to a vast variety of wild game and fowl. This includes antelope, black bear, mountain lion, swan, wolf, and more. Montana hunting season dates vary depending on the type of game hunted and the weapon used. And, the land is divided into seven regions, four resource offices, and the state headquarters. Make sure to stay on top of any changes in dates or regulations throughout the season.

To hunt safely and compliantly in Montana, you must first complete education and licensing requirements. If you were born after January 1, 1985, you must sign up for hunter or bowhunter education. This course is available in-person or online and must be completed before you can acquire your license.

An Apprentice Hunter Program is also available. Any resident or nonresident hunter 10 years or older may hunt for two years without your hunter education. But, this apprenticeship must be completed and accompanied by a certified mentor over 21 years old. The hunter must also acquire the Montana hunting licenses for the specific game hunted.
