Mississippi

Hunting, fishing, and trapping are beloved pastimes throughout the South, including Mississippi with their wide variety of wild game. Waterfowl, white-tailed deer, squirrels, raccoons, and more can be found in Mississippi’s beautiful wildlife. Whether you are a long-time resident or an annual visitor, what do you need to be ready for hunting season?

All resident and non-resident hunters born after January 1, 1972, must have a valid hunting license to participate in each season. A Wildlife Management Area Permit is also required for hunting and fishing on Wildlife Management Areas or national forest land. Young hunters may also join in the hunting season while under the guidance of a licensed or exempt adult.

In order for children and adult hunters to obtain their licenses, they must first complete the required hunter education to learn the standards of hunter ethics, conservation, first aid, and more. Courses are available online and in-person

Once you have completed your hunter education, you may purchase your individual hunting license or a special license package. And for native Mississippians or residents of over 18 consecutive months, you are eligible for a Lifetime License that secures even more years of hunting and fishing opportunities.
