Massachusetts

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts draws many hunters in with its picturesque outdoor environments and sizable deer populations. Under certain conditions, MassWildlife lands can provide excellent hunting opportunities for hunters in Massachusetts.

These lands, which are managed by the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife, span 200,000 acres and are available for hunting, fishing, and trapping. These include Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) and Wildlife Conservation Easements (WCEs).

WMAs are accessible to all for the purposes of hunting, fishing, trapping, and other recreational activities and allow hunting regardless of town firearm bylaws. WCEs, on the other hand, include privately owned land for hunting, fishing, trapping, and other outdoor recreation. Other hunting locations include state parks and forests, municipal lands, federal lands, and private property.

In the state of Massachusetts, persons aged 15 or older need a license in order to hunt. However, additional permits or stamps may be needed depending on what game an individual intends to hunt and when.
