Maryland

Maryland is home to seemingly endless options of wild game for hunting and trapping. With seasons specifically for beaver, deer, rabbits, pheasant, and more, there is a game for every hunter. It’s no wonder that hunting in Maryland is a favorite pastime of residents and nonresidents alike. If you are looking forward to Maryland’s hunting season, make sure you are aware of state rules and regulations for compliant hunting.

All hunters aged 13 years and older must complete the Maryland Hunter Education Course to receive a hunting license. To obtain your license, you may visit one of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources’s service centers by appointment only. Licenses are also available for purchase online. Special permits are allowed for disabled hunters and hunters in the armed forces.

Aside from resident and non-resident licenses, discounted first-time licenses are available for hunters. Short-term nonresident licenses may also be purchased for three days of hunting waterfowl and small game. Stamps are also required for those intending to hunt federal or Maryland Migratory Birds, bonus antlered deer.  Hunters must obtain stamps to hunt during archery or muzzleloader seasons as well.

Hunters and trappers that have obtained the necessary education and licensure are permitted to hunt on public hunting lands, including the Cooperative Wildlife Management Areas and the Maryland-National Capital Park.Learn more about Maryland hunting and trapping seasons with the resources from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
