Maine

Maine boasts a rich hunting season with a wide variety of wild game. From bear and deer to wild turkey, gray squirrel, snowshoe hare, and more, hunters of all interests can find a season to enjoy. If you plan on joining in with other lovers of the sport, are you up to date on Maine’s hunting rules and regulations?

To hunt in Maine, you must possess a state hunting license. All hunters aged 16 years and older must take a hunter safety course to receive their license. Following education, licenses may be obtained from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife office, authorized agents, or online

Specific licenses are available by type of weaponry, including firearms licenses, archery licenses, crossbow permits, and more. Other special licenses are available for members of the military, exchange students, disabled veterans, and more.

There are a few exceptions for licensure. Maine landowners and their families may hunt on their private land without a license. And, individuals assisting in a hunt may do so as long as they participate without carrying hunting equipment. To learn more about Maine hunting seasons, approved hunting areas, and lawful hunting conduct, make sure to visit the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife for more information.
