Louisiana

Louisiana is known as the Sportsman’s Paradise. With rich resources for fishing, hunting, hiking, and sports, this state offers satisfaction to all who love the great outdoors. But when it comes to hunting, there are several regulations that residents must follow to remain in accordance with state law.

Hunting licenses and personal identification are required to be in the individual’s possession while hunting. All residential and nonresidential hunters over the age of 16 must possess a Basic Hunting License to hunt and keep wild birds. Other specialized licenses are also necessary for hunting and keeping deer, bobcat, and waterfowl, as well as licenses for the military, the disabled, and more.

To receive your license, you must first complete a mandatory hunter education course. Hunters younger than 16 and Louisiana residents of more than six months who were born before June 1940 are not required to carry specialized licenses or stamps.

Hunting season varies throughout the state by area, the type of game being hunted, and the equipment used. For safe and compliant hunting, use the following guide for Louisiana hunting season.
