Idaho

If you want to hunt in Idaho, you need to know how to do it safely and legally. Learn about Idaho hunting rules and regulations with Jim's firearms.

Hunting in Idaho offers a plethora of hunting experiences because of the wide variety of game available. By following the rules and regulations for Idaho hunting, hunters can legally and safely experience all Idaho offers. Before you purchase your hunting license, a mandatory hunter’s education class must be completed for hunters born after January 1, 1975.

If you have never purchased a hunting license in Idaho or any other state and are over the age of eight, you are eligible for the Hunting Passport program. In this program, novice outdoorsmen learn about fishing and hunting for a year with an adult mentor without needing to complete the Idaho hunter education course.

Hunting in Idaho requires a license, but it is important to check if what game requires tags as well. General season tags are on a first-come, first-served basis, and prices will vary on state residency. Besides checking for tag requirements, hunters should check season dates as they are likely to vary depending on location and game. Hunters shouldn’t assume they know the season dates because of prior hunting experience, as dates will shift yearly. With these scheduling complexities in mind, Idaho Fish and Game has created an online interactive calendar and customizable planner
