Georgia

One of the most popular pastimes in Georgia is the time-honored tradition of hunting. But, you must follow the rules and regulations of the state for those who want to join this beloved activity.

All hunters must be properly licensed. To buy a license, you must complete a hunter's education course if you were born after January 1, 1961. There are residential and nonresidential options available for hunting as well as special additional licensing requirements for specific games. For residents or non-residents hunting deer, turkey, migratory birds, or fishing, they must obtain The Harvest Record (deer & turkey), Waterfowl and Migratory Bird Stamp, or SIP Permit (fishing).

Once a hunter has obtained their license, they must be ready to follow these rules and regulations. Even experienced hunters should refresh their knowledge at the start of each season as rules, dates, and zones are changed annually. This is one reason why the hunter education course is so helpful.

In addition to this course, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources has created Adventure Together, an interactive website with helpful information about hunting for novice and experienced hunters.
