Alabama

Did you know Alabama has over 1.3 million acres of public hunting land? This goes to show how seriously this state takes hunting. However, to enjoy all Alabama offers to hunters, you must follow the state rules and regulations.

All residential and nonresidential hunters must obtain a license before hunting. However, residential land owners and their immediate families can hunt on their property without a license. Additionally, Alabama residents over 65 years old are exempt from obtaining the following licenses:

  • Hunting
  • Freshwater Fishing
  • Saltwater Fishing
  • State Duck Stam
  • Wildlife Management Area

But, some licenses are required for all ages, and it is recommended to check if you are unsure if you need to purchase one.

For hunters born after August 1, 1977, you must complete a hunter's education course before purchasing a hunting license. This is where you will learn vital information about hunting in Alabama, such as the mandatory Game Check and Harvest Record. These are both required as it protects Alabama's game population.

If these regulations are not followed, punishments may include fines or confiscation of your hunting license. If you witness a hunter breaking the rules, please report it to the Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division Law Enforcement Section.Â
